What's it like to live in Torquay, Devon, UK?

Hi I am re-locating in a couple of months to South devon. I am a 30 year old female. I am going to be renting a room to begin with in a houseshare to make friends (hopefully) and to save money and also to see which area I may like. I was originally thinking of Exmouth but looking on spareroom.com it seems I'd have more options renting a room in Torquay. Anybody know what it's like to live there or surrounding areas? I am looking for somewhere with a bit going on to meet people and also somewhere friendly and safe. Thanks for any answers x
