What happened to Save our Trees?

I have seen so many coniferous trees felled of late and not any deciduous trees planted in their place. The spin to get "native" trees back into the UK is taking away the habitats of red kites and buzzards right now. Plus will the old "native" trees be able to cope with the new climate by the time they have grown (if they ever get planted). We need the coniferous trees and their O2 today!
