How much rebar in a garage with a basement with an 8' free span and 8" thick slab?

If the garage is supporting a car I would guess at least one mat of rebar tied in approx 8-9 inch squares. There could possibly be 2 mats of steel. The best way would be to check your local building codes. You could also ask the contractor.
